Eljo started with production of authentik fondant (breastplate) and fruited sugar shapes since 1895. Elisabeth and John Hope (Eljo) have founded the company at that time from their home kitchen in Rotterdam. This typical Dutch confectionery grew over the years into a large success. Therefor in 1964 the move began to a completely new production facility in IJsselstein. In these year Eljo, led by Hubert de Hoop with his brothers, developed into an innovative and modern company. Besides the production facility for the sweets (sugar, gelee and fondant) are now chocolate, licorice and anise milk tablets added to the premises.
After a turbulent period in 2009 Eljo is acquired by an informal investor. The following years the “new generation” De Hoop worked hard for renewal of the production lines and is thoroughly engaged in improving the quality to an even higher standard. Many improvements have been made sovar to the machinery and the facility. In 2011 Eljo is been certified to FSSC 22000 and are currently working on the certification for IFS. Driven by a sime and pure customer-oriented business philosophy Eljo develops and manufactures new products constantly. Our products are made using a mixture of various modern techniques and traditional hand-crafting. It goes without saying that we use only ingredients of the highest quality. It is our aim to continually surprise you with unique and exclusive confectionery, and this is what underscores our ambitions to constantly develop new ideas.
